PR&R Director Selected to U. of Texas Hall of Honor Recognized for Significant Contributions to Field of Rehabilitation

FALLS CHURCH, Va. (February 23, 2009)—Col. Barbara Springer, Director of the Proponency Office for Rehabilitation and Reintegration (PR&R), has been selected as an inductee into the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education Hall of Honor at the University of Texas. She will receive a plaque during the formal induction ceremony on April 14, 2009.

The Hall of Honor was established to honor former faculty and students who have contributed significantly to the field of kinesiology, heath education and rehabilitation and have established a national presence in the field.

Col. Springer earned her PT degree from Northeastern University in 1986 and her Ph.D. in health education and health promotion from the University of Texas in August, 2002. She is a board certified clinical specialist in orthopedic and sports physical therapy and some of her research has included abdominal muscle function, normal single limb stance times, and amputee outcome measures.

Prior to her current position, Col. Springer was Chief of the Integrated Physical Therapy Service at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center.

The Hall of Honor is located in the H.J. Lutcher Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin.
